Good evening blogger world, the weekend starts here my friends and what better way to get it rocking than by listening to this. For some reason I have been singing the song "dancing" from this record all day at work despite the fact that I have not listened to it for so long. So as soon as I got home I fired her up, just fantastic, a rock record just for the sake of it, it moves my world.
For those not in the know it's Damien Jurado & Gathered In Song - I Break Chairs. Damien normally records and releases urban folk (a great term I have learned from Amazon) - real dark, downbeat and sparse songs - which in themselves are fantastic. But this is such a drastic departure from that and it got seriously slated upon its release; so bad in fact the record label dumped a large pressing of the record in a skip because it didn't sell.
One mans coffee is another mans tea and all, but I defy anyone not to listen to the two opening tracks, Paperwings and Dancing; and not be seriously rocked by it. Perhaps the greatest two opening tracks off any rock record - although I've not really thought about that statement.
And if you're going to buy it do yourself a favour; buy it on vinyl and not CD or worse still some sort of horribly compressed MP3 format; it's just wrong on anything other than vinyl.
